Two years ago me and hubby bought at Miejers five fruit bearing tress three pears (because I like pears) and two peach.
The first year after we planted the trees, two trees didn't make it through. The three remaining (struggling) trees are doing fine though I didn't put too much time caring for them. This year I was surprised when I saw the blossoming flowers out from there tiny branches. And out of the three trees two are blossoming well ,I was so excited to see it the first time. My hubby named it my "baby" since almost every morning I visited them and even talked to them
, even if sometimes the weather is still too chilly or windy. But what the heck they are my first tree here in US of A. that I call my own.
But here is the problem I don't know which one is pear or peach the tag that is supposedly attached to the tree is gone. So now I couldn't determined which is which huh!!
I search in the internet and looked for the flowers of the pear and peach but they seem looks the same. HUbbies guess is peach and my guess is pear but im leaning to peach now
. But whatever will come out either it is peach or pear I will be so happy to have something to pick from my backyard. Specially, I and hubby planted it.

Last week, I thought of making a good dessert for my honey luvs. I was thinking of making one which I haven‘t done it before. And so I took out all my recipe clippings that I save for so long ago. It took me for awhile sorting old clippings when my eyes caught the simple paper with my handwritten on it. I read all the ingredients and found out that I have all the ingredients that was required specially the mangoes. So I did make it, it is called mango gelatin ala Kim.
Cassava cake…
Last week, I thought that our family general cleaning will gonna happened last Saturday. But since the weather didn’t cooperate with us we agreed that it will be postponed to another weekend. Unfortunately, I already ordered a layer of cassava cake to Lanie. And it was already ready to picked up. So I told Lanie what happened and thanks God Lanie is too nice to understand me. And she did give me half of the cassava cake because luckily at that time she also had visitors in the house (mini party). I got my half that I also shared to my in laws when they visited us last Saturday minus the cleaning. Thanks Lan!

Puso (hanging rice) is a dish originating from the province of Cebu in the Philippines. It consists of rice wrapped in coco leaves which is then boiled. It is served by slicing the coco leaves in half exposing the rice.
I remember when I was young my Lola and my Auntie used to make a puso because they had a Carenderia. I noticed that at the time they already had a cooked rice ready to be served but some people do like the hanging rice. I liked to watched my Lola waved the coco leaves into triangular form and put the uncooked rice inside. Then after she scoped the rice inside the opened triangular coco leaves she closed it up then tie each puso into a bunch. Then she put it into a huge kaldero with water and then bring into boil. When it came out the puso as we call it is already cooked. That time I tried and tried to learn how to wave the coco leaves and formed it into a triangular form but to no avail. I am just too confuse my fingers got stiffed. And so I stopped trying and just watched them waving, it amazes me then.
Side note:
By the way, my Lola is a true blue bisdak from Carcar,Cebu and so my Lolo (paternal side). Kaya siguro she knew how to make puso and her kind of staple is not rice but mais. Though she makes puso but she cooked her own mais (corn). Which is in my younger age, as I watched her cooked mais I am so amazed because it is not how we used to cooked our rice though. She had to boil water first then when it is boiled she put the mais then stir it
constantly until it is cooked. I tried it once perte gyud lataa hehehe. Never perfected it. I wish I tried hard to learned how to wave the coco leaves and cooked the mais.
I don’t know what’s in the puso that people specially the bisdak’s do like it. Well here is what I think. It is cheap (for me) one peace cost P2.00 (small size) and the bigger size cost P3.00 while one serving of rice in a plate cost P7.00. Then it is handy you don’t have to put it in a container in order not to get dirty. Just bring a knife
and that’s it. Third, one piece seems enough for you hehehe. I don’t know why, but that is what I found out. It maybe because it is really packed that one piece is just enough. Oh well it depends maybe if your that hungry then you can consume at least 2 or3 pieces. But for me it is good for dieters huh!

Yahoo my journal has been selected as a JOURNAL OF THE WEEK. Thanks guys!!

When I was in the Philippines I heard this news about a man being operated (in Vicente Sotto Hospital) in his rectum. I didn’t go deeper to the story since I was busy with my one month vacation. When I get here in US, I was back watching the abs-cbn in the computer. I was exploring the archives when I saw in their website about the black suede scandal. Well, the word scandal stirs my curiosity so I click the site and there it was it is about the man being operated in his rectum. I didn’t knew at that time how scandalous it is so I look at it in You Tube, and there it was I saw the whole thing. The video was taken when the man was operated in his rectum to get the Black Suede that was stuck in his rectum. What makes it more grosser is that it was taken in the operating room and was being feasted by the medical people. I got chills when I heard all the cheers and yelling that was taken through inside the operating room. I saw in the video when the doctor took out the black suede canister out from the rectum and opened the cap and spray it on the air. Morons!!
Of course, the man didn’t know anything about it since I guess he was sleeping because of the anesthesia put into his system. But then of course, because of our high technology somebody uploaded it in You Tube and everybody now in the whole wide world was able to see it.
As I get deeper into this scandal I found out the real story. Well this man is a gay (homosexual) he looks for a callboy to please his needs. And so he found a callboy and paid him for a 100 pesos. But what happened at the end of their encounter is that the callboy put in his rectum the canister Black Suede with the cap on it. And that is why this man went to the hospital to get help. But……
It got me to think how on earth that this medical people do this thing to this poor, embarrassed person! What did they get from doing this?? Nothing!! They just broke their code of ethics. But I am so thankful many people in Cebu (where all this happened) help this man get justice.
And I couldn’t understand why some people well say “well that is what he gets from being gay” oh men you have a mind of a pea much less than a moron!! The issue here is not about him being a gay. The issue is that the medical people whom he trusted broke that trust of confidentiality. Mantakin mong inap-load sa You Tube! I am just thankful that the latest news I heard is that the medical people who are inside the operating room are already named. (Oh by the way, as the operating goes instead of the operating team were inside the room, they allowed nursing students and some outsiders (medical people) came in and join the jubilation.) And that they will be stripped off by their licenses. Hehehehehe dapat lang!! In other words the man would say Akin Ang Huling Halakhak!!

Before anything else, I am thankful that I arrived Michigan safe and sound. The last two flights that I had which is from my place to Manila then from Manila to Detroit are all delayed in there respective flights for almost 2 hours!!! Oh yeah nabanas ang beauty ko sa kakahintay but there is nothing I could do I am not the owner of a private jet plane just a mere passenger so wait ang beauty ko the max. Kaya I arrived in my hubbies loving arms na tuliro hehehe! I don’t have that enough sleep and the food is just to suffice the hunger that you feel along the flight. With 18 flying hours sino ba ang hinde makaka-experienced nang jetlag after huh! So for now I am sleeping irregularly trying to get out the jet lag. But this is not my story all about I am going to reminisce the dishes or food or fruits that I enjoyed while I was there in the Philippines. So here is it!
Foods and fruits in the Philippines.
I don’t have anything against the food here in America. They are good and delicious. It is just that for 38 years I was used to the food back in the Philippines. And so every time I came to visit the Philippines I pig myself with the dishes that I missed that much.
So what are those Filipino dishes that I’ve missed so much that I don’t have the privileged to cooked it here in US of A . Well number one is the bas-oy, bas-oy is a dish which contain the simple and cheap vegetables. You have the option to mix it with fried or paksiw fish or fried dried fish. But for me I’d rather put none but just vegetables. Second, is the paksiw na isda, my gush it is just so yummy I didn’t realized I have eaten too much already. Third is the kinilaw, this one is also too good specially when the fish is fresh. What is funny is that since my arrival in the Philippines I only ate lechon once!!! And that was last April 6 my birthday. And to the effect that I didn’t bought one whole lechon but just 2 kilos of lechon hehehe. Basically, the whole time I was in the Philippines I ate lots of veggies and not much on the pork or beef. Not included pa the squid and the shrimps that I ate a lot too.
Then on the other side, the fruits in PI. My gush I was having a good time drinking a lot of mango, buko, banana, avocado shakes. In spite of my hard cough and “pagaw” I still go for mango. Sabi nga nila I should not eat or drink too much mango because it will make me cough too much. But what the heck this is once in a life time moment hehehehehe. So go for it, drink what ever it takes me to hehe. And since it was summer there, fruits in different shapes and colors is everywhere. Like kaimito, guyabano, seragullas, durian, guava, papaya, banana, avocado, lanzones and a lot more! With all those healthy dishes and fruits I feel like I lose some weight or it is just in my dreams?? Hahaha!!

My 2nd update…
It’s been a while since my 1st update so many things happened and done. As of this writing the weather in PI specifically in my area is 81F it is hot and humid.
Schools Commencements Day
After Easter Sunday, was the schools commencements day. Almost all the schools from pre-school to elementary, high school and colleges held there commencements in that week. And my niece and nephew schools are one of them so I was busy going from one school to another to attend the awarding ceremony. Anyhow, I am glad that they also got some awards. It bring smiles to their faces too specially when they hear their name is called hehehe.
DAKAK
Friday, after all the school activities early in the morning we were so ready to go to Dakak and spend the weekend there. It was my first time to visit to that beach resort located in Dapitan, Zamboanga del Norte. The place is a bit far from the main highway, but it is part of the package that they will pick you up in the Dapitan. When we get there at the beach resort I like it then. It is very quiet, peaceful and clean. Before, we came to where the cluster of cottages we stopped in there registration building and a complimentary drinks will be given right away.
We stayed there for 2 nights and 3 days. There check in time is 2Pm and check out time is 12 noon. The kids had a blast swimming in there swimming pools and the beach as well. But they prefer more in the kiddies swimming pool because they can swim and jump and play.
There food is good too though (of course) it is expensive but what can we expect it is a good beach resort. Every dinner time they perform some cultural show. For two nights, they have Philippine cultural show and the next night they have a Hawaiian show. Aside from the swimming pools where you can swim from morning till night they also have aqua sports. My brother did his scuba diving and we were planning to ride the banana boat but the management told me that their speed boat was broke. It was fixed the day we checked out and we saw some people riding the banana boat. It seems to me that riding the banana boat is a lot of fun too.
My 42nd birthday
Last Sunday, April 6 I turned 42 thanks to God. The first one who called me early in the morning is my loving husband. Then Lanie called me too to greet me Happy birthday (how sweet of you Lan hehe). Aside from the calls abroad I received a lot of text messages from my nieces’ friends. Which almost occupy my whole morning thanking them through text messages. But unfortunately I was in the hospital when I celebrated my birthday. What happened is that my nephew had an asthma attacked and the doctor advices me that we will admit him immediately. So from the doctor’s office we went right away to the hospital. And as for me I have a bad cough and cold. That almost every night I have a hard time sleeping because of the cough. And my voice is very pagaw. Every time I talked to my husband he always told me to take the medicine and vitamins and I did. It is just that the weather here in PI is so hot and I have a hard time adjusting it. And so every time I came to visit my family here I always had a bad cough and cold. And so what I got from my birthday is a birthday cake from my niece. We bought 2 kilos of lechon (it was my first time to ate lechon since I arrived here) bought some hanging rice and my all time favorite the sinigang na isda. That is all my birthday celebration then.

Batch mates/classmates get together
Since I arrived here in OC, I had the privileged of meeting my batch mates/classmates thrice. The 2nd time that we were together we were doing a cooking lesson. It just so happen that one of my classmate is a good chef in

Pampering
The thing that I like most in coming here in PI is about how cheap the services here. One example is the rebonding of hair though for ordinary people living here in PI it is a lot expensive for them. But for the people who came from other country I could say they find it cheap compare to how much they asked for a haircut or anything that makes you beautiful. Then there is the Shiatsu or Swedish massage, my goodness nakaka-adik and masaheng iyan. Parang gusto kong matulog nalang pagkatapos nang masahe. It took two hours to finished the massage and though it cost P400 pero sulit naman. While I was in the massage room with all the aromatherapy and all hubby called me. I told him I was in the massage room and I feel so good hehehe. He said he was envious hehe I told him not to worry because when I get home I will do the masahe and it will to the max ever!!
That is all for now. I will update more if I have a chance. Ciao!!
