Having a tanned skin tone..

The first time I came here I don’t have any idea that people had to go to a tanning salon. Pay an amount just to become tan specially in the summer season. But I also didn’t realize that it doesn’t look good to some people hehe.

It was a hot afternoon I and hubby decided to go to Mc donalds to get my favorite yogurt parfait. Hubby didn’t like to order in drive thru so he parked the car and he went inside to order. While I was seated comfortably inside the car listening my favorite R & B music, across from where we were parked is a tanning salon. I was looking at it and all of a sudden the door opened. And two blond haired women came out and I was so shocked of what I saw!! The two women looked like reddish that I could compare it to a cooked shrimp or crabs hehehe. Yup they seem like being cooked. I was giggling to the max since it is my first time to see a woman who has just done tanning. I couldn’t believe it, it doesn’t looked good to me hehe. When hubby came I told him about what I saw and he told me that when I get closer to this people who tanned their body they are wrinkled that it looks like resinette hehehe. (Well for the older folks who get tanned. )

So hubby told me to be happy with my skin color hehe. He says women here pay for what I’ve got. That is so cool huh! But we Pinay’s had this mentality that white or fair is beautiful. I guess it came from what we are told by our society back in PI. I remember, I am always compared to my sister who has the mestiza look. While me is not wahhhhhhhhh!! I don’t know if it has an effect on me because I don’t remember that I was mad or having low self-esteem about it. But I could remember the comparison being made by relatives and friends. Shocks!! It is only here in US of A that I am being praised of my skin tone yahooo!!! But you know what even if I am praised of having an exotic color (haha) still at the back of my mind (subconsciously) I still do like the fair or white skin tone. Bad me! Secretly, every time I went home in PI I always hoard for whitening lotion, whitening soap, whitening cream and etc. Isn’t it ironic??

Right now since it is summer I have to be outside to enjoy the sun and fun so I could achieve my exotic look in a short time hehe. I am starting to love it though and embraces the fact that I have a skin tone women in America pay to have it. A good consolation to a mind that was shape to think that fair or white skin is pretty. Duh!!

9 Hugs.

Sometimes, I find Pinays quite kawawa spendings tons of money just to be white when all the while, a lot more people all over the world likes tanned skin. sobra kasi colonial mentality natin eh:)

Hi Kim, I think you and I have the same skin tone. One good thing about it is that you and I wont wrinkle as fast as the whites/red lobster people who sit in the sun or tanning bed hoping to get a little brown. So my brown skin is okay to me. I do try to stay out of the sun though because when I'm in the sun, I can tan soooo fast and I get dark!!! I like being brown but I don't like to get black. anyway, you know what I mean. Good post, because its so true!
